Vol.10 2022

So much has happened in June, and we've loads more to share with you in this newsletter.

Thailand is well and truly open and welcoming you back with open arms. From 1 July, the Thailand Pass is no longer required. Fully vaccinated travellers must present their Covid-19 vaccination certificate and happy travels. Partially or unvaccinated visitors can also zoom through upon submitting a negative RT-PCR test or professional ATK within 72 hours of travel. Note that different conditions may apply if you enter by land or sea.

Likewise, in Bali, you can be on your way by presenting your vaccination certificate. Vietnam is easy for vaccinated travellers with medical/travel insurance covering Covid-19 treatment. Access to Japan is easing too.

We all now have so many choices.

A "Staycation" is simply a vacation spent near home. It came to the fore over the last few years. For many of us, these Staycations meant escaping small apartments, spreading out, dipping in a pool, spending time with loved ones, and just being somewhere different. It felt liberating.

The good news is, Staycations are trending stronger than ever, and Hua Hin is top of the list for many. Hotels and resorts continue to offer competitive, creative and irresistible Staycation packages.

5 Hot Bali Outings from Back to Bali Contest 2022

Remember the Back to Bali Contest 2022? We invited you to share your ideal 3D2N Bali Break itinerary. You told us, and we listened!

It was gobsmackingly great! We were astounded, receiving over 200 entries providing inspiring itineraries and dreamy locations. We were in a frenzy with so many creative and bright ideas.

Selecting our winners was very difficult, and congratulations to our eight lucky entries who won their dream holiday in one of our Bali resorts. However, whittling down the multitude of suggestions of fantastic Bali sights to just five, WOW, that was tough.

After all, Bali, the famed Island of the Gods, offers a huge diversity and something for everyone. Beautiful sandy beaches, rugged coastlines, lush mountains and hills, verdant rice paddies and palm plantations provide stunning scenery. Add in the cultural and deeply spiritual nature, the welcoming Balinese people, and excellent hospitality it is little wonder so many call it 'paradise on earth'.

Here we go, after much debate, our Top 5 Hot Bali Outings

Balangan Beach

Ripped surfers, powerful rolling waves, golden sandy beach, sun loungers and umbrellas, lush limestone cliffs, local warungs and cafes, incredible viewpoints, what more could you want?

One of Bali's hottest spots, it attracts world-class surfers relishing long left-hand surf breaks up to three meters high. Although swimmable, it's more of a surfer's playground due to the shallow reef. IG fanatics will be in the zone with breathtaking views from Tebing Pantai Balangan at sunset or anytime. This gorgeous beach is about 2.5km from Cross Bali Breakers.

The Bali Swing

NOT your children's playground variety swings. The whole swinging thing has taken off to new heights in Bali. However, we've been told the Bali Swing was the original and remains the best. Offering numerous choices, including three tandem swings, from 10 to 78 meters above ground, it is an adrenaline junkie's dream. Soaring through the air with breathtaking views of the Balinese jungle will get you Insta snapping or TikToking for sure. You can even hire beautiful flowy dresses. If swinging is too heart-pumping, then why not perch in a Hanging Nest. Definitely, one for your bucket list and is just 10km from Tanadewa Resort Spa Ubud.

Gunung Kawi Temple

This unique archaeological site consists of a cluster of seven-meter-high ancient shrines carved into the cliff's rock face. Five are located on the east side of the Pakerisan River, four on the west and another to the south. After a flight of steps, you are invited to sprinkle yourself with holy water from the earthenware vase, an immersive spiritual moment. Wander around the shrines, and discover the lush rice paddy terraces flanking the river and the dense tropical green valley. Located north of Ubud, add it to your bucket list.

Penglipuran Village

This beautiful traditional highland village in East Bali has become a community-based tourism destination. Fortunately, the long-established culture remains, and whilst residents have embraced a more contemporary lifestyle, stepping inside these houses reveals the Balinese customs alive and well. The stone-paved street leads to the local temple. Enjoy the quaint photogenic village, chat with the locals, explore the bamboo forest and savour the mountain coolness.

Tibumana Waterfall

This lesser-known gem is one of two waterfalls near Ubud worth adding to your list. Firstly the drive to it is spectacular with endless rice paddies and palm groves, worth stopping and taking in the vibe. A leisurely 15-minute stroll brings you to a stunningly gorgeous waterfall, especially with the sun streaming through. Throw on your cozzies and take a dip in the refreshing, clean pool at the waterfall's base.

Guests at Tanadewa Resort and Spa Ubud can easily combine a number of these highlights into a highly memorable day trip. Those staying at our beautiful beach resorts can also experience the beautiful hinterland and some of these attractions in just under two hours' drive.

Ideally, split your time between one of our coastal resorts and Tanadewa Resort Ubud, giving the best of both worlds. Our fantastic Sparkling Bali deal may be just the ticket to lure you back to Bali.

MOST EPIC Private Pool Villas, the first and only Fallingwater Pool Villa at Kanchanaburi.

Building on the already stunning Cross River Kwai, one of Kanchanaburi’s most-talked riverside hotels with themed guest rooms and over-the-water floating cabins, comes the all-new, exquisite one- and two-bedroom Fallingwater Pool Villas, the latest in hand-crafted luxurious accommodation. Each of the 10 uniquely-styled, multi-storey units perfectly frames the spectacular scenery of the Kwai Noi River and the Tenasserim mountain range in the distance.

Ideally positioned on an idyllic stretch of a pristine river, Cross River Kwai is encircled by Mother Nature with mature trees, towering bamboo, and native flora and fauna giving the retreat a perfectly balanced natural ambiance. The distinctive resort incorporates several elements that are exclusively linked to Kanchanaburi and the town’s incredible history and strategic location. These include styles that recognise the world-famous railway line and train carriages as well as one-of-a-kind XFloat cabins.

The spectacular Fallingwater Pool Villas expand the nature-inspired narrative of Cross River Kwai and pay homage to the picturesque 7-tiered Erawan Falls located in the nearby Erawan National Park. Designed to mimic the coarse feeling of a cave complex complete with the sound of falling water, each villa has a rough concrete finish that is juxtaposed with stylish interior décor. The character of each villa is brought to life with luxury custom-made elements that include gorgeous chandeliers, comfortable sofas and chairs, an item of personalized artwork from the owner, plus conveniences and amenities tailor-made for today’s discerning traveller.

From the comfort of their living room, guests can plunge into the indoor-outdoor swimming pool as if jumping into a lagoon or sit back and feast their eyes upon the beautiful countryside. Inspirational window designs means that guests are presented with numerous different portraits of nature through square, round and rectangular window frames. The relaxed living area, which sports a large flat-screen TV and a Marshall Bluetooth speaker, opens onto a private deck with comfortable sun loungers that overlook the majestic river.

Upstairs, the spacious master bedroom features floor-to-ceiling windows that offer unobstructed views of the river and mountains, trendy drop lighting, a huge double bed, and a wonderful walk-in closet that seamlessly blends man-made and natural features. A chic bathroom combines a specially-designed washbasin, a bathtub and a separate rain shower, plus a two-way mirror that can be opened and closed by the click of a switch. Even here in the bedroom and bathroom, Kanchanaburi’s novel composition is invited into the space with steel chains, river stones, and cactus trees all adding to the idiosyncratic layout.

Another original design-feature of the unique two-bedroom Fallingwater Pool Villa is the basement bedroom and bathroom. Down a dozen stairs, guests are presented with a whitewashed, self-contained suite that includes an elevated double bed, separate bathroom, toilet and walk-in closet contrasted with dark wood fittings and iron fixtures. A large window ensures guests are provided with ample natural light as it opens on to spectacular views of the resort’s manicured gardens.

From excursions to Kanchanaburi’s famed Bridge over the River Kwai and poignant moments at the Death Railway museum, a visit to the amazing Erawan National Park or friendly town centre, to waterborne and other activities at the resort, guests can fill their days and nights with excitement. Alternatively, they can sit back and admire nature in all its infinite beauty.
