CATCH UP!
Vol.12 2022
Everyone deserves a holiday break, but these days, with so much news about the impact of travel on our precious planet, it is hard not to be concerned about our effect on the environment. The good news is that we can still take a hard-earned vacation, minimising our footprint and getting good vibes from our leisure time. We call it travelling consciously; we have loads of ideas and inspo on that this month.
Our Meaningful Travel partnership with Socialgiver is an essential and generous undertaking directly supporting the health and welfare of our precious green resources - this is a really 'feel good' and rewarding initiative. Our hotels have great ideas about participating in World Car Free Day in September. A venture that gives us reflection time about reducing our reliance on motor vehicles.
Increasingly, people are considering what they consume, and we are jazzed at reopening our exceptional Vegan restaurant at Away Chiang Mai Thapae. Staycations continue to resonate, as does travel away from the weekend crowds, and we have some excellent value weekday deals and staycations ideas to temp – travelling to your tune.
Read on for how you can lead the way and travel consciously.
Step Up and Out, Without the Car
Did you know it is World Car Free Day on 22 September? Happening annually on this date, Car Free Day aims to take the heat off the planet for just one day by encouraging people to be less dependent on their cars and try alternatives.
While vehicles are convenient and offer many benefits, they also contribute a dangerous amount of pollution, so having a day off is highly recommended. World Car Free Day is great for raising awareness about these concerns and helping to reduce emissions. So we're suggesting we all take the lead by stepping up, out, and into your day without motor vehicle keys.
You can still get out and explore when you stay with us. Catch public transport, wear out some shoe leather, or use your 'human power' to cycle. Here are more fun ideas for World Car Free Day around some of our hotel locations.
Cross Pattaya Pratamnak, located in a leafy green pocket and just two minutes walk to Cosy Beach. Enjoy sunrise with your toes in the sand, stroll the beach and street, check out the cool cafes, and sniff out the bargains in the boutiques and local shops. Maybe take a kayak out late afternoon or loll about in our beautiful pool and gardens.
At the Cross Vibe Pattaya Seaphere, walk or ride an e-scooter the 100m from the hotel for a dip into the calm turquoise waters at Ban Amphur Beach.
Wander the lanes from Away Chiang Mai Thapae to historic Thapae Gate. Roam the Old City with trendy boutiques, hip cafes and restaurants, glistening temples and fantastic markets.
Exploring 'Nimman Road' is absolutely best by foot or bicycle, and Cross Vibe Chiang Mai Decem is in the thick of it. So many shopping, chilling, eating and drinking choices await.
Bustling Bangkok has many captivating attractions helping you create unforgettable moments and get those fab Insta shots. Take the easy option on the super efficient BTS Skytrain. Cross Vibe Bangkok Sukhumvit and Haven't Met Bangkok Silom are just a hop, step and jump away to discovering Bangkok's treasures.
In beautiful Bali, Away Bali Legian Camakila is just a few steps from dreamy Legian Beach. You could learn to surf and hit the waves. Be sure to stay for the best sunsets.
Travelling Green – You and our Environment are Rewarded
Cross Hotels & Resorts has partnered with Socialgiver, a not-for-profit social enterprise registered in Thailand, to help people not only have an enjoyable holiday and help the environment.
Book any specially discounted Cross Hotel packages through the
Socialgiver website, and half of whatever you spend will be donated to support nature conservation and the protection of green spaces throughout Thailand. We call this our 'Meaningful Travel' program, and the beneficiary of our collaboration with Socialgiver is The Big Trees project.
Why The Big Tree Project?
Trees are vital to us and our environment. As the biggest plants on the planet, they give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil and give life to the world's wildlife. Trees help reduce pollution, decrease dust particle levels and release oxygen into the atmosphere. The Big Tree project is about protecting current trees, especially in urban environments like our cities, and growing the green spaces around where we live. In coordination with Thammasat University's Faculty of Architecture, The Big Tree Project trains Arborists to better care for and maintenance our trees.
For example, Bangkok has around 3 million trees which are cared for by about 180 uncertified tree trimmers. The Big Tree project educates tree trimmers and others who care for trees in all facets of growing and caring for trees – helping them become Arborists. Every 2,767 baht raised through the Socialgiver website supports an Arborist training program protecting big trees in Thailand. At Cross, we don't believe in 'greenwashing' and wholeheartedly support programs making a real difference at the 'tree roots' level, hence our Meaningful Travel campaign.
Be Part of the Solution, Not the Pollution
• For Big Trees: Cross pledges to donate 50% of revenue when you book through Socialgiver, as our commitment to the 'Giving Ecosystem'.
• For You: Super discounts up to 50%, and special offers are your reward. Plus, feel the good vibes by participating in the 'Giving Ecosystem'.
Take your pick on Socialgiver, Cross properties in Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, Pattaya, Bangkok, or Buriram, with up to 50% discount and lots of add-ons. So, don't dither. Click the link, so You and our Environment are Rewarded.
